SAFER INTERNET DAY!

On February 9, the Youth IGF offered a platform for teachers from countries with SID Committees administrated by the Youth IGF to demonstrate how they teach online safety in their schools and what they think about online safety training for educators.

Ifechukwu Enweani is a Safety Educator in Nigeria, working in schools in rural areas, as well as in big cities to promote safety among kids and children. For Youth IGF interview, Ife put herself in the spirit of online safety expert, one of her areas of action and told us about grassroots work she does with kids.

Liya Endale is a founder of Global Education Foundation and does a lot of work in rural Ethiopia. Liya told Youth IGF about rural schools during the pandemic situation and how they helped children to follow studies and not to become left behind. Internet and the ICTs played a crucial role. 

Samwel Mjirima is a volunteer teacher in rural school in Tanzania, in a region called Mara. Samwel told the Youth IGF during the interview about how he teaches online safety at his school. He also described the situation with an Internet access which remains a huge issue, from time to time they have to walk more then 40min to reach the center of the village where they can get the Internet access and to really practice the ICT skills they got in class. Samwel approach to get his students and kids motivated is to make them real friends of him.

Youth IGF Ambassadors are now part of Youth Advisory Boards! The EURid Youth Board is inspiring others. The .ru Youth Board is born.

European CyberSec Skills Summit

We launched the First Ever Cybersecurity Skills Summit !

The Youth IGF Movement together with the Swiss government presented the First ever Cybersecurity Skills Summit. Microsoft Corporation was the diamond sponsor of the event.

JUNE

We launched the Youth IGF Informs! 

UN Environmental Forum

Anna Krupnik from the Youth IGF spoke at the UN Environmental Forum about green IT and the role of youth. 

JULY

Young Youth IGF activists took part in discussion about new set of worldwide priorities in digital and namely the green IT at the EuroDIG.

AUGUST

The World Summit on Information Society launched the Women in Tech repository. The Youth IGF female representative, Anna Krupnik, joined the talk about this amazing initiative and brought the Youth IGF commitment to support females to become ICT leaders.

RegHorizon

Dunsin Fatuase from the Youth IGF joined the 2nd RegHorizon conference discussion about #AI policy aspects together with top level experts. 

OCTOBER

Anna Krupnik from the Youth IGF spoke at the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA76) special Science Summit and brought the voice of youth on green IT and the sustainable IT environment.

Early Career Fellowship

As a follow-up activity of our European Cyber Security Skills Summit, we partnered with Internet Society and supported the Early Career Fellowship to form the next generation of Internet Leaders.

Anna Krupnik from the Youth IGF participated in Education network meeting of the European Union Intellectual Property Office IP. She advocated for the promotion of IP, online safety and cybersecurity skills among young people and kids.

Pre-Internet Governance Forum session

We had a very fruitful Pre-Internet Governance Forum session discussion about cybersecurity skills. A lot of inspiration and useful tips for youth from our speakers.

IGF 2021 Open Forum #62 EU Delegation to the IGF & the Youth IGF 

During the Youth IGF - EU Delegation to the IGF Open Forum, the Young Leaders shared with the IGF multi-stakeholder community the outcomes of the Youth IGF Movement activities on digital cooperation that took place around the world in 2020, known as the Youth IGF Battles 2020 to support the UN roadmap on Digital cooperation.

The outcomes represent four tangible recommendations that have been taken for implementation by decision-makers.
